TINGLE IN THE NETHERLANDS - WHY CAN'T YOU WRITE SOMETHING NICE FOR A CHANGE?

Tingle In The Netherlands - Why Can't You Write Something Nice For A Change?

Well this certainly came as a nice surprise.

Tingle In The Netherlands are an electro pop duo from Manchester featuring poet Helen Thomas (main lyricist) and Owen J (music) who have been creating music together since 2009.

Musical inspirations are clear with nods to the likes of Kraftwork, John Foxx and other early 80's synth pop artists stamped all over the place.   But that's not to say the sound is dated as the whole album is sprinkled with a thoroughly modern dark gloss both lyrically and musically which means if you were not in the know you'd have difficulty in pinpointing when this was released (and that's a good thing!).

The synth sound is at times epic, like the soundtrack to the next John Carpenter movie, a deeply black murder comedy obviously.  And those lyrics, deliciously tongue in cheek, absurd, sexy but always intriguing and leaving you wondering what on earth was the inspiration behind them, just check out opener Prostitute's Handbag -never destined for much Radio 1 daytime play more the pity.

At times Tingle in The NL sound like Helen Love's 2nd cousin, created by an incestuous relationship or remind me of The Nails classic 88 Lines About 44 Women (now I'd love to hear their take on that).

It's really hard to do justice to this album in mere words so the best advice I can give is go out and buy it, it's a fucking great album!  Best tracks for me She's No Lady (a modern day Lola) and 365 although to be honest there isn't a duff track amongst them.
